Song from a battlefield

“They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the Lord. Isaiah 24:14

The theme of Isaiah chapter 24 is not an encouraging one. God’s wrath is being poured upon the earth because of man’s sin. There is desolation and destruction everywhere. Earth is shaken, broken and fading away. Confusion and weeping filled the streets. It is in this background the prophet sees a remnant lifting up their voice and singing for the glory of God. They sing, “Glory to the righteous one!” v. 16c. (NIV)

How could they sing when there is destruction around them? God has dealt with them righteously. They were aware of their sins and God’s just recompense for it. Awareness of His majesty and their experiences of His righteous deeds inspire them to sing and call upon others to praise God.

This is the wonderful privilege of a believer; he can sing praises in any adverse circumstances. Such should be our response life’s trying moments. See His saving hands in the most terrible situations in life and praise God. He is a just God who never makes a mistake. He does everything well, so we can definitely praise God for what He allows in our life.

Some one has said, “Mourn at sin, then you shall rejoice in God, nothing can take away that joy”.

For God’s people any time is a time to worship and rejoice, even the fierce battle field! Basic requirements are confess our sins, acknowledge His glory and experience His works.
