Studies from 1st Peter - 8f

II. The privileges of a Christian. 1Peter. 2:4—8.

4. Assurance. V. 6c. And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”

Though we have seen this verse in another context, it is good to consider in our present perspective too. As a blessing for any one who comes to Christ the living stone, Peter doesn't want us to be ignorant of the assurance one has. Notice how definite is the statement, “by no means be put to shame”.

Such assurance and confidence are the unique privileges of born again believers who trust Christ. They need no shame, no fear, and no need to flee in haste.

5. Honour. V. 7. “To you therefore who believe is the preciousness” JND

According to JND translation or Malayalam, believers have that preciousness. The honour or the exalted position which Christ got is reflected in God's people. Cf. Eph. 2:6; Heb. 7:25. This then is also another unique privilege of a believer. We share the preciousness of Christ, we are precious before God. God finds us in Christ, even in that exalted position.

The Basis for all these privileges. V. 4a. “Coming to Him”

We should not ignore this fact that all these blessings are ours not just because we study about Him; do something in Christ's name. Not even a visit to a church is enough, but we need to come to Christ. We must come to Him personally with the intention to stay close to Him. It is this personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ that brings about all the above mentioned changes and experiences in our life.

Conclusion:-

  • Have we come to Christ personally?
Just a short visit is not sufficient, we must abide in Him, stay close to Him.
  • Have we received the above mentioned unique privileges, are we aware of it and enjoy it?
  • Who is Christ to us? Is He precious to us? Or do we stumble at Him?
  • Knowledge of Christ's person and awareness of our privileges in Him should make us more humble, obedient and worshipful.
