According to a report in the Hindustan Times, around 880 million pilgrims visit India’s five major pilgrims’ centers. The average annual donation they get from the devotees is Rupees 16.72 Billion.
Notice that some of these are seasonal pilgrim centers. Moreover consider the thousands of other pilgrim centers of different religions all over India.
What does it speak of? - The intense search for ‘moksha’ / ‘mukti’ (salvation). People are not satisfied with the booming economy of India, they need more than that. They are willing to pay any amount, take any sacrifice to attain salvation, and peace of mind.
If only they understand, no money, no effort can purchase peace of mind, forgiveness of sins and salvation from the eternal punishment. Is it not the reason why they visit the same place again with the same zeal, spending the same cost?
In Christ, we have all these and much more freely, once for all. What a grace? What a peace?
